What is the social media photo challenge?

If you read anything about social media, it won’t have escaped you that using images or video gets more engagement from your followers, regardless of which social media platform you’re using.  Lots more retweets, comments and shares will make your brand more visible, which can only be good for business.

And if you’ve got a smartphone, you’ve got a camera to hand that will take good quality photos if you know how to get the best from it.

So for the next fortnight, I’m running a photo challenge to encourage businesses to experiment more with using their own photos on social media to showcase what they do.

What do we need to do?

Each day I’ll set you a new challenge for a photo to take, and I’ll give you some tips on how to get the best photos.

Does it matter whether I sell goods or services?

No. I’ve picked topics that will work for both.

Is it for a specific social media platform?

No. It doesn’t matter whether you use Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or Instagram. And don’t feel you have to sign up for all of them if you’re not using them already. It’s better to do one platform well than to do 4 different ones badly.

Where will the challenge be?

I’m going to use Periscope, the live video streaming app, so you can give me feedback on how it’s going and ask questions, without needing a full blown webinar app.  If you’ve not used Periscope before, I wrote a blog post about how it works here.

You don’t have to appear on screen, but if you join in the live broadcast, you can use the text facility within the app to ask me questions.  Periscope broadcasts are visible for 24 hours so if you miss the live broadcast you can come back later that day and watch it at your leisure.
