I was delighted to be asked to talk about my Warwick 1100 pictures project on Radio Warwickshire today.  It’s occurred to me that I’ve not mentioned it on this blog before, so if you don’t follow me on social media, you may not have heard about it.

If it’s all news to you, back in January I setup a community project with the aim of collecting at least 1100 photos of Warwick in 2014, it’s 1100th birthday year – not just my photos, but photos from people living, working or visiting Warwick.  It’s not a photographic competition – it’s about creating an archive that will be interesting to social historians for many years to come so I’m encouraging everyone to contribute, not just photos of the big celebrations and events happening in the town this year, but of the “everyday’ things they do too. I’ve had loads of support and publicity in the local papers, and we already have well over 300 photos in the archive of everything from the controversial roadworks in High Street in January to Prince Charles’ visit to Warwick this week.  The plan is to exhibit a good cross-section of the photos in early spring 2015 at a public venue or venues in central Warwick – and perhaps make a book too.

Radio Warwickshire picked up on the project after seeing our tweets on our new @Warwick1100pics account.  Reporter Liane Kate interviewed me this lunchtime and we talked about how the idea came about, the importance of printing your images and options for next year’s exhibition when the project officially closes on 31 January 2015.

If you want to listen to the whole interview, it’s over on the Radio Warwickshire Audioboo page and they will be broadcasting it at various times over the next week or so.  If you want to contribute your own photos to the project, pop over to the website to find out exactly what you need to do and see some of the great images we’ve received already: www.warwick1100.org:
