Everyone’s focussing on the Olympics in London in August but did you know that Warwick schools have been holding their own Olympics over the last couple of weeks? And tonight was the closing ceremony, held in the very grand surroundings of Warwick Castle courtyard (who needs an Olympic stadium when you’ve got a medieval castle!). My son was taking part in the festivities so we all trooped along to support him and what a lovely evening it was – fun atmosphere and the weather was kind too (we even got a bit of sunshine at one point). Team GB Olympic hopeful Julian Thomas kicked off proceedings by waking the lion as part of the Long Feng Martial Arts lion dance.
Then the various local schools all did a brilliant job performing their own interpretations of dances from around the world, including China, India, Jamaica, Greece and Sierra Leone.
Good luck to Julian in the 100m but I bet even if he wins a Gold the medal won’t be as good as the special Warwick one he was presented with this evening :-). A few fireworks ended the ceremony with a bang then we had our own Olympic sprint to see who could get back to the car park first.
